Newcrest appoints a new Mine Manager at Lihir, new Operations Manager at Duffy, Melanesian Spearhead Group appoints new Deputy Director General, former NZ Pacific Ambassador in new NZ parliament.


Newcrest has announced the appointment of the first Papua New Guinean to oversee operations at its Lihir Mine in New Ireland Province. Iso Ealedona, a career mining engineer, with more than 20 years’ experience both locally and abroad, has been appointed Mine Manager for Lihir.

Duffy Cafe has appointed a new Operations Manager, as owners Travers and Olga Chue prepare to move to China to set up a coffee business in China. Lena Elgner has taken over from Olga Chue as Operations Manager.

The Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Secretariat has a new Deputy Director General. He is Peter Eafeare from Papua New Guinea. Eafeare is a seasoned diplomat with vast experience on regional and international geo-political and development issues that will contribute immensely to the work of the MSG in implementing the mandates of the leaders.

New Zealand’s former Ambassador for Pacific Economic Development, Shane Jones, has been elected as an MP for the New Zealand First party, which is likely to be a coalition partner with the National party, which won the most number of seats in last weekend’s election. Jones had been an MP before taking up the ambassador post.
