The Ombudsman Appointment Committee is inviting applications for the role of Chief Ombudsman of the Ombudsman Commission of Papua New Guinea.

The Ombudsman Commission is an Independent Institution established to promote good governance and good leadership in Papua New Guinea. It consists of the Chief Ombudsman and two Ombudsmen. The Commission’s primary functions include investigating complaints against governmental bodies and alleged discriminatory practices and enforcing the Leadership Code.

Job requirements

The candidates must possess appropriate leadership qualities. A Chief Ombudsman is expected to provide leadership, guidance, direction and inspiration to fellow leaders of the country who, among others, include Constitutional Office-holders and Members of the Parliament.

The successful candidate will be a person

• Of integrity, independence of mind, resolution and with a high standing and reputation in the community
• Who will easily command the respect of other leaders
• With considerable administrative experience and a distinguished career
• With a demonstrated commitment to the values underpinning the constitutional functions of the Ombudsman Commission
