Department of Personal Management are seeking a highly qualified and experienced executive to oversee and administer the drafting and preparation of all Government legislation both primary (Acts) and secondary (Regulations) initial and amending for the National Executive Council and presentation to National Parliament for ratification.

Key responsibilities

• The Office is responsible for providing leadership, direction and management in the functions and resources of the Office of the Legislative Counsel and ensure effective service to the Prime Minister and Cabinet by supporting the Government effect its policies through appropriate legislations
• The First Legislative Counsel is responsible for providing to the Executive and Legislative Arms of the Government, high quality and timely legislative programs consistent with government policy directives and developments goals.

Qualifications & skills

• Applicants must meet the PNG Public Services Minimum person specifications which includes
• Master’s Degree in Law with admission to the Bar to practice as a lawyer, Post Graduate or a Master’s Degree in Legislative Drafting would be an advantage from a recognised institution
• Have at least Senior Level Management experience of at least 10 years as a Senior lawyer in the Public Service and or Private Sector with strong background in legislative drafting
