BSP is seeking a highly-qualified candidate to fill the position of Senior Legal Officer – Commercial. This position is based in Port Moresby and reports directly to the Head of Legal. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing the legal services required by BSP.

Key deliverables

• Together with other legal officers in the Legal Unit, to provide the legal services required by the Bank in undertaking its operations;
• For the tasks assigned, provide on a timely basis, legal services which are accurate, commercial and practical;
• Undertake all tasks assigned in a professional manner and with honesty and integrity and ensure the interests of BSP are adequately protected and safeguarded;
• Ensure all files and records of the Legal Officer are property maintained in a manner expected of a legal practice, including the Legal Services Data Base;
• Maintain professional standards including keeping up to date with the law and developments;
• Provide required reports which are accurate;
• Maintain a practising certificate;
• To ensure all information is kept confidential; and
• To assist in the supervision, training and development of Legal Officers, including the sharing of knowledge and precedents.

Preferred Qualifications, Professional/Technical Skills & Experiences

• Bachelor of Laws.
• Very good legal skills commensurate with a commercial lawyer of at least five (5) years’ experience.
• A very good knowledge of commercial law and its application.
• Expertise in commercial and corporate law. Banking law experience will be well-regarded for your application.
• Ability to determine and analyse complicated factual issues and apply the law.
• Ability to draft complicated documents.
• Articulate with an ability to express views.
• At least five (5) years’ experience as a lawyer practising in commercial corporate or banking law.
