Specialist, Senior – Logistics

Barrick (Niugini) Limited, seeks a logistics professional to join the logistics team at the Porgera Gold Mine.

Barrick (Niugini) Limited (“BNL”) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea, and operates the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province on behalf of the Porgera Joint Venture partners. BNL is an independently managed company and is jointly owned through an equal partnership between Barrick Gold Corporation and Zijin Mining Group-which own 95% participating interest in the Porgera Joint Venture. The remaining 5% is owned by Mineral Resource Enga (MRE) Limited – a consortium consisting of the Enga Provincial Government and the Porgera landowners.

Reporting to the Logistics Superintendent, the incumbent will be responsible for application and monitoring of systems and processes for the logistics activities , managing and supervising staff to maintain accurate and efficient control of all aspects of the logistics operation along with a strong focus on container control to minimise detention charges and logistics costs.

The ideal candidate must have

  • Minimum 10 years in a Logistics supervision role preferably within the mining or shipping industry
  • General knowledge of the movement of dangerous goods by all modes of transport
  • High attention to detail and excellent organisational skills
  • Experience in the use of Computerised Materials Management Systems (CMMS) and Inventory Systems and the ability to use integrated management systems and Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to control costs and validation of invoicing in a timely manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels and able to read and write English at an Upper Secondary School standard
  • Ability to work unsupervised and is able to plan and prioritise tasks and follow through to completion
  • Ability to train, mentor and coach team members

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure personnel are adequately inducted in their work area and are aware of all workplace rules and critical procedures applying at Porgera
  • Actively contribute to site safety policy and new initiatives and implement change as directed by the Executive Managing Director and management team.
  • Actively promote, monitor and enforce compliance of personal with safe work practices
  • Ensure all incidents are reported and investigated according to Company policy and statutory requirements and all recommended corrective actions are completed.
  • Promoting environmentally sound work practices in peers and contractors according to PJV’ Environmental Policy and Practices
  • Provide training and coaching to all members, with specific attention to National and Local employees as part of the PJV’s Training and Localisation Plan
  • Ensure all members of the team have clearly defined accountabilities, roles and individual development plans
  • Conduct formal performance reviews and provide feedback on performance
  • Schedule services commitments and assign accountabilities to ensure the level of service is provided to meet operational demands and review progress for continuous improvements
  • Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with the PJV Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health and safety rules and procedures
