NASFUND’s new Chairman, Australia appoints Consul-General in Lae, EMTV loses CEO, a new NZ High Commissioner, Japan’s Ambassador leaves, new Port Moresby General Hospital CEO, inaugural chairman of Porgera Chamber of Commerce, new board member at Geopacific Resources.

People 02Accountant Hulala Tokome has been appointed Chairman of NASFUND. He has been the Deputy Chairman for the past two years. He succeeds William Lamur who remains on the board as an ordinary director for a year. Architect Charles Vee is the new Deputy Chairman.

Australia has appointed Paul Murphy as Australia’s Consul-General in Lae. He replaces Australia’s Honorary Consul in Lae, Alan McLay, who held the position for the past three years. Murphy is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently Assistant Director, Free Trade Agreement Division. He has served overseas as First Secretary (Economic), Australian High Commission, Port Moresby. He takes up the position this month.

Bhanu Sud is leaving EMTV, where he was Chief Executive for five years. Sud laid the foundation for the network’s digitalisation process, while seeing to the development of innovative local productions such as Vocal Fusion, the country’s most viewed reality show. He also boosted training and up-skilling of the broadcaster’s media and technical personnel.

New Zealand has appointed Sue Mackwell to the position of High Commissioner in Papua New Guinea. She is currently National Children’s Director of the Children’s Action Plan in New Zealand, following a term as Deputy Chief Executive at NZ’s Ministry of Social Development. She replaces career diplomat, Tony Fautua.

Japanese Ambassador Morio Matsumoto has completed his tour of duty in PNG, serving two and a half years in Port Moresby.

Dr Umesh Gupta has been appointed the new Chief Executive Officer of the Port Moresby General Hospital, replacing Grant Muddle. Gupta is the hospital’s vascular surgeon and Executive Director of Clinical Services.

The new Porgera Chamber of Commerce and Industry has elected Nickson Pakea as its inaugural President.

Geopacific Resources has appointed Philippa Leggat as board member and Executive Director, Corporate. Her experience includes negotiations, mergers and acquisitions, fundraising and defining and executing business improvement strategies in Africa, Asia, Australia and Europe.

Former Group CEO, Bank South Pacific, Ian Clyne, has also been appointed a Non-Executive Director of Geopacific Resources.

    Just highlighting that in October I was also appointed a Non Executive Director of GeoPacific Resources & will be visiting POM after an absence of 3 years on the 26th Jan for a week. Very much looking forward to being back in PNG.
