Port Moresby General Hospital is looking for a Chief Executive Officer to become part of the only designated Level 7 health facility in the country.

Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) is the national referral and teaching hospital for Papua New Guinea, with over 1,000 beds and is the only designated Level 7 health facility in the country. Services include emergency care, diagnostic care, medical, child health/paediatrics, maternal and surgical services, onsite clinical and management support services, and a nation-wide referral role for urgent and critical care.

The hospital is currently completing a major development program including a cardiac cath lab, a nine-bed coronary care unit, a non-invasive cardiac ward, a renal dialysis ward, a comprehensive radiotherapy unit and a medical oncology unit.

Under the direction of the Hospital Board, the CEO is responsible for implementing the hospital Strategic Plan, providing executive leadership, operational management and direction towards achievement of PMGH’s vision, objectives, strategies in accordance with policies and procedures and delegated authorities.

Primary responsibilities include

• Operational management of PMGH in accordance with financial and business plans approved by the Board and National Executive Council/Cabinet
• Inspiring staff performance and commitment towards a shared vision and common values
• Ensuring compliance with national health legislation and directives

Job requirements

 The successful candidate must possess the following:

• Tertiary qualifications in Health, Commerce or Business Management with relevant postgraduate qualifications or technical qualifications. Membership of a relevant Professional College or Association is also required
• Demonstrated capacity to establish and communicate a clear vision and strategies and deliver on plans within budget
• Proven history of executive-level leadership skills in a complex organization delivering high-quality health services.
• A track record of commercial and clinical deliverables within large scale international hospitals at the executive level.
• Ability to negotiate, advocate and work with a wide cross section of stakeholders Demonstrated capacity to motivate, engage and maximize the performance of the executive team.
