Managing Director

Location: Port Moresby

The National Forest Board invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced Papua New Guineans for the position of Managing Director of the PNG Forest Authority.

The Authority is a Regulatory Statutory Body established under the Forestry Act 1991 (as amended) and serves as the lead national agency mandated to coordinate forestry sector policies, oversee sustainable forest management programs, represent Papua New Guinea in relevant forestry forums, and implement national government directives and commitments relating to the forestry sector.

Under the Forestry Act 1991(as amended), the Managing Director is the Chief Executive Officer of the Authority and is entrusted with providing strategic leadership, executing decisions of the National Forest Board, and ensuring that the Authority operates with the highest standards of efficiency, accountability, and good governance.

Responsibilities

The Managing Director serves as the leading national agency mandated to coordinate forestry sector policies, oversee sustainable forest management programs, represent Papua New Guinea in relevant forestry forums, and implement national government directives and commitments relating to the forestry sector.

Requirements:

  • Have five (5) to ten (10) years of senior executive management experience, with proven capability in high level policy development, strategic planning, program oversight, and high-level stakeholder engagement at national and/or international levels.
  • Possesses a master’s degree or higher qualification in forestry, environmental management, climate change, economics, public policy, development studies, or other relevant fields aligned with the mandate of the PNG Forest Authority. An Advance Diploma of Government (Leadership and Governance) from Somare Institute of Leadership & Governance (SILAG) will be considered an advantage.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in forestry management, sustainable forest governance, climate change policy, climate finance mechanisms, international climate negotiations, and broader sustainable development frameworks.
