Online learning platforms, delivery apps, a phone banking tool, a new government website and a high-tech road surface are among the projects shortlisted for the 2023 Innovation PNG Awards.

The actual award winners, selected from the shortlists, will be announced at a special gala awards dinner on 9 November at APEC Haus.

There are three shortlists: for small business, large business and government. There are three organisations shortlisted for each of the awards:

Small Business Award shortlist

• Bobatom Tech and Consultancy
• GoFood PNG
• Reelae

Large Business Award shortlist

• Markham Culverts
• MiBank
• PGO

Government shortlist

• Credit Guarantee Corporation
• Coffee Industry Corporation
• Department of Civil Engineering at Unitech Lae

‘This is the second time the Innovation PNG Awards have been run and we had almost double the number of entries this time,’ said Chair of the awards judging panel, Dr Jane Thomason. ‘Of these, just over half were from small businesses, which is a very encouraging sign.’

‘The range of innovations covered by the entries was nothing short of breathtaking. The judges would like to congratulate all those who entered the awards. We look forward to announcing the winners next week.’

The Innovation PNG Awards are designed to reward and encourage innovation – creative problem-solving using new ideas – in business and government.

‘The digital economy is an important opportunity for PNG’s future and the quality of applicants show that many are already seizing this potential. It augurs well for the digital future,’ said Jane Thomason.

The awards are being run alongside Innovation PNG, the all-day festival of innovation, taking place at APEC Haus on 10 November. Innovation PNG is co-hosted by the Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Business Advantage International.
