Papua New Guinea’s most-read magazine talks about a new world-class island resort and much more.
A new world-class island resort has opened in PNG, and the latest issue of Paradise has some of the first photos, inside and out. The Loloata Private Island Resort opened near Port Moresby late last year, offering 68 rooms, two restaurants, a swimming pool and day spa. There are also 22 eye-catching modern overwater villas.
Photographer Aaron Chin travelled to the resort for Paradise and captured images of the property from the air with his drone (with permission from the resort). Prolific PNG photographer David Kirkland also visited and we feature some of his shots from ground level.
Loloata Island is on the edge of the Papuan Barrier Reef and there are 29 dive and snorkelling sites around the island. There’s also kayaking and paddle boarding on offer, pampering in the spa and poolside cabanas. If you’re not staying there overnight, you can purchase a day pass for K100 a day, including use of facilities and return transfers from Port Moresby.
On another tack, photographer Chris Peel has travelled to the Louisiade Archipelago in Milne Bay Province to produce a Paradise photo essay, Gone with the Wind, about kiteboarding in the idyllic azure waters. ‘Flat-water kiting here is ideal because there is plenty of hip deep water with a sand bottom, and there’s lots of wind,’ he wrote.
This issue also carries Paradise’s annual almanac, which rounds up the best events in PNG and the region in 2020. It’s the sixth year we’ve produced the almanac, which has now become one of the most comprehensive event listings for the region.
Turning to business, Air Niugini’s managing director Alan Milne outlines his plans for the future, including new planes, and we cover the inaugural PNG Innovation Awards that recently brought together some of the country’s brightest minds in Port Moresby.
