A position has become available for a highly skilled and technically competent workshop manager to join NSC Freighters – Lae and take ownership in the ongoing development of the company’s production schedule/planner.

NSC Freighters – Lae has been operating in PNG since 1970 and is an Engineering company that designs, fabricates and installs a large range of equipment servicing the Light, Medium and Heavy Truck Haulage Industry, together with developing an extensive range of product and services in support of both Mining & Construction within PNG.

A position has become available for a highly skilled and technically competent “Workshop Manager” to join the team and take ownership in the ongoing development of the companies “Production Schedule/Planner”, together with the hands on management of a busy Engineering/Fabrication Workshop.

Job requirements

• Trade qualification in “Boiler Making” essential with exceptional fabrication and welding technique & skills. All welding to AS1554 Standards using stick, tig & mig gasless flux core essential.
• Not essential, but a post trade qualification in “mechanical engineering” will be held in very high regard.
• Ability to lead by example and maintain a high level of workshop quality throughput and staff training, achieved by maintaining and implementing the workshop staff training matrix.
• Ability in “production planning” for job allocation and job flow in the workshop, including job scheduling, labour allocation, equipment resource allocation, to ensure client delivery dates and quality expectations are achieved.
• Communicate daily updates on work in progress to the sales team.
• The ability to identify client’s needs and explain/demonstrate the services to them, which may involve technical descriptions of products and the way they may be used.
• Minimum of 5 years post trade experience as a “Workshop Manager” within a fabrication workshop working with BM’s, Fitters, Welders, Mechanics and Electrical Tradesman.
