Matt Thistlethwaite, Australia’s new Parliamentary Secretary for Pacific Island Affairs
Senator the Hon Matt Thistlethwaite is Australia’s new Parliamentary Secretary for Pacific Island Affairs, following the departure of former Secretary, Richard Marles. Marles quit the position following the recent vote for leadership of the Australian Labor Party, after which several supporters of former leader, Kevin Rudd, resigned. The appointment is Thistlethwaite’s first junior ministerial position.
ANZ loses international head
Alex Thursby, ANZ’s Chief Executive Officer, International & Institutional Banking is leaving the bank to become head of a bank in the Middle East. Thursby was head of all ANZ’s international operations, including those in the Pacific.
‘Over the past six years, Alex has played a leading role in implementing the Group’s super regional strategy,’ said ANZ Chief Executive Officer Mike Smith in a statement today. ‘He has built a world-class team of senior international bankers in International and Institutional Banking.’
