People moves: executive moves and changes relevant to Papua New Guinea

Welcome,

People 02Mohan new Pacific CEO at ANZ

Vishnu Mohan, ANZ’s former CEO PNG & Pacific North West Region, who relocated to Fiji earlier this year, is now head of the bank’s Pacific operations, which span 12 countries.

ANZ announced in late October that Mohan would take over as CEO Pacific from 1 November 2012, in addition to his role as CEO Fiji. He replaces Michael Rowland, who has moved to a non-Pacific role within the company.

This represents a notable change of approach from the bank since Mohan will be based in Fiji rather than ANZ’s Melbourne head office, and will continue to head ANZ’s Fiji operations as well. Besides its local banking presence, ANZ hosts its back-office operations centre for the Pacific in Fiji.

The bank recently reported full-year net profit after tax of AUD$190 million for its Pacific businesses in 2012, up 29% compared to the previous year.

Nautilus CEO steps down

Stephen Rogers, CEO of embattled undersea miner Nautilus Minerals, stepped down at the end of October. Mike Johnston, Nautilus’ Vice President for Strategic Development and Exploration, has been named as his interim replacement.

On 14 November, Nautilus announced it was suspending work on its seafloor mining project in PNG on account of a dispute with the PNG Government.
